The Performance Impact of ESG Integration

The past few years have seen a dramatic increase in the attention paid to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) criteria in the investment process. In this article, AXA´s Rosenberg Equities team looks to answer the question of whether there is a trade-off between ESG goals and investment returns.

By looking back at the historical relationship between ESG concepts and investment inputs, and looking forward at the increasing importance of ESG, we conclude that equity portfolios can be built to exhibit improved ESG profiles without sacrificing important return and risk characteristics.
