Good management, that’s it
“Sustainable investing is value creation that goes beyond just good returns. It’s about finding companies that are wisely positioned for the future and put ESG factors at the very core of their strategy. Sustainability, for me, is a way to manage risks and capture opportunities through a better understanding of environmental issues. And it’s simply good management.”
Just do it!
“Most people are so concerned about not doing anything wrong that they end up doing nothing. Every step in the right direction is a good step. Combine broader index funds with more niched funds, spread your risks, and beware of the fees. But most of all just do it.”
Connect the dots, there is no turning back
“I have cared about environmental issues for a long time. Back in high school, for instance, I organised an “Environmental Day”. To make it a bit more high profile I wrote to the current minister of environmental affairs, Birgitta Dahl. To everyone’s surprise, she turned up and held a speech.
It took some time for me to connect the dots to finance though. The word sustainable finance was not mentioned once during the four years I went to university. Now that I see the dots, I am surprised that there are still a lot of people who fail to connect them.
I also had a goose-bump moment at the opening of the UN Climate Summit in 2014, when Leonardo Di Caprio held his famous speech and urged all leaders to own up to the situation and do something about the state of the climate. I knew then for sure that there is no turning back.”
