Share post:

Stockholm (NordSIP) – In this week’s unveiling of yet another category of the IRRI survey 2019‘s “Nordic Cut” highlights the companies that stand out in two ways. We consider both the best communicators of ESG issues and the companies that asset managers and independent research providers are most keen to communicate with.

Best Communicators

To identify the best performers, the survey participants were asked: Which (quoted) companies are best at managing and communicating the material sustainability and corporate governance issues facing their business?
Given the large number of organisation and the popularity of this category we are able to provide three different results: the best Nordic Company Communicators designated by global voters, the best Nordic Company Communicators designated by Nordic voters and finally, the best International (non-Nordic) Company Communicators designated by Nordic voters.
From our earlier sneak peek of the IRRI 2019 results, you may already know that the Best Nordic Company Communicators, as designated by Global voters are…
1 – Ørsted

2 – Novo Nordisk
3 – Stora Enso

Now for the real “Nordic Cut”, the Best Nordic Company Communicators designated by Nordic voters are…

As the Nordics’ vote wasn’t entirely aligned with the global vote, we also took a closer look at Ørsted, Novo Nordisk, Stora Enso and Telia Company and their approach in the past year.

Finally, in the “Nordic Cut”, the Best International (non-Nordic) Company Communicators designated by Nordic voters are…

Most Concerning Companies

To identify the worse performers, the survey participants were asked: Which companies would you most like to have direct contact with next year?

As with the best communicators, we can report the three votes: the Most Concerning Nordic Companies designated by global voters, the Most Concerning Nordic Companies designated by Nordic voters and finally, the Most Concerning International (non-Nordic) Companies designated by Nordic voters.
The Most Concerning Nordic Companies according to global voters are …

2 – Fortum
3 – A.P. Møller-Maersk

The “Nordic Cut” clearly dominated the global vote, focusing on the same companies if only reordering the focus. According to Nordic voters, the Most Concerning Nordic Companies are…

1 – Swedbank AB

2 – A.P. Møller-Maersk
3 – Fortum

Given their preeminence, we took a closer look at Swedbank AB, A.P. Møller-Maersk and Fortum, and the struggles that they encountered over the last year.
