Alecta Poaches Skandia AM’s CIO

Stockholm (NordSIP) – Axel Brändström, CIO of Skandia Investment Management between December 2017 and October 2019, is set to become Alecta’s new head of real assets, according to a report by Investments & Pension Europe.

This new role at Alecta will be the first time since 2005 that Mr Brändström will work outside of Skandia. Prior to his appointment as CIO, he was Head of Investment Strategy at Skandia Investment Strategy for almost five years, after joining Skandia Liv as Head of Risk Allocation in 2005. Before joining Skandia, he was a portfolio manager at AP3. He moved there after beginning his career at Handelsbanken where he was a portfolio manager for five years after graduating from university.

According to the same report from I&PE, this new hire is the result of a recent reorganisation of Alecta’s investment business with the creation of the Real Assets department which Brändström will head. The department is to be divided into International Real assets, which will be headed by Frans Heijbel and Real Estate Sweden, which will be headed by Lena Boberg.
