AP3 Poaches Head of Sustainability from Öhman

Stockholm (NordSIP) – The Third Swedish National Pension Fund (AP3) announced in November last year that they would be ramping up their sustainability ambitions, establishing a dedicated team of experts and looking for the right person to head it. The search appears to have gone well and on 1 February AP3 revealed that the high-profile position has been successfully filled. According to the news release, Fredric Nyström will be leaving his current position as Head of Responsible Investments at Öhman Fonder to join AP3 on 2 May.

Nyström will assume an overall responsibility for the fund’s sustainability work, such as defining, developing, and implementing processes, strategies and goals, in close cooperation with AP3’s investment specialists. He will report directly to the fund’s CIO, Pablo Bernengo. “We welcome Fredric Nyström to an AP3 that in recent years has worked intensively to develop the fund’s sustainability work,” comments Bernengo in the announcement (in Swedish). “In his new role as Head of Sustainability, Fredric will, with his experience, competence and personality, constitute a very positive force as we now further strengthen AP3’s role as a committed owner and responsible investor,” he adds.

A true veteran in the field of sustainability, Nyström gained some valuable experience working for nine years at GES (Sustainalytics), prior to joining Öhman in 2014. His background includes also positions at Handelsbanken in Sweden and Luxembourg. Last year, he was on Aktuell Hållbarhet’s list over Sweden’s 101 most influential sustainability profiles.

“AP3 is at a very exciting stage and will now further strengthen its sustainability work,” comments the newly appointed Head of Sustainability (in Swedish). “I see it as a unique opportunity to, together with new colleagues at AP3, be part of an extremely exciting journey and lead that work,” concludes Nyström.
