    AP3 Finds a New CEO

    Share post:

Stockholm (NordSIP) – The Third Swedish National Pension Fund’s (AP3) search for a new CEO to replace long-time veteran Kerstin Hessius is over. On 13 June, the board of AP3 announced the appointment of Staffan Hansén, who will take up the role before the end of the year. Currently, Hansén is the CEO of SPP Pension & Försäkring and an executive management member of Storebrand Group.

Before joining Storebrand, Hansén oversaw fixed-income trading at Handelsbanken and Alfred Berg. His background as a bond trader and his keen interest in finance will no doubt be useful when analysing market developments and formulating forward-looking views in his new role. AP3’s incoming CEO is also known for his superior communication skills. He is a past recipient of the Financial Industry Speaker of the Year award and, as the readers of NordSIP might be aware, the author of many insightful articles. Moreover, Hansén has a passionate commitment to sustainability and gender equality.

”I am very much looking forward to getting to know my AP3 colleagues and working with them to continue delivering on the Fund’s important mission for the state pension system,” comments Hansén. “I have great respect for the excellent results AP3 has achieved in the past and am taking on the role of CEO with the aim of continuing to develop the Fund as a world-class asset manager with a professional and positive work environment.”

Hansén is taking over the reins of a thriving AP3. The Fund reported the best results in its 20-year history in 2021, generating a return of 20.7% after expenses. Nevertheless, expectations run high as he is about to join the organisation. “I believe his extensive experience of asset management and his strong track record as a CEO and leader, combined with all the very competent people at AP3, will provide the optimal basis for continued successful operations of the Fund and hence of the state pension system,” says Christina Lindenius, Chairman of the Board of AP3.

Meanwhile, at SPP, another search has begun. According to Odd Arild Grefstad, Chairman of the Board of SPP Pension & Insurance and CEO of the parent company Storebrand, Hansén will be missed. “He is a skilled leader with broad experience and weight in asset management. I am pleased to have had the privilege of working with him during his many years within the Storebrand Group and wish him every success in his new role,” concludes Grefstad.
