Industriens Pension Sets 2025 Goals for Reducing Investment Emissions

Share post:

Industriens Pension has announced specific climate goals for 2025, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its investment portfolio. The initiative is part of the fund’s broader commitment to aligning its investments with global climate targets and ensuring long-term sustainability.

Ambitious Reduction Targets

The fund aims to reduce the climate footprint of its listed equities, corporate bonds, and directly owned properties by at least 29% by 2025, compared to 2019 levels. This target builds on Industriens Pension’s pledge to achieve a carbon-neutral investment portfolio by 2050.

In a statement in Danish, Morten Rask Nymark, Head of Equities at Industriens Pension, highlighted the dual focus of the fund’s strategy.

“We have a responsibility to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while ensuring strong returns for our members. These targets strike a balance between financial performance and environmental impact,” said Nymark.

The pension fund emphasises that its approach not only targets investments in low-emission sectors but also supports the transition of high-emission companies, encouraging a meaningful reduction in overall emissions.

Tools to Achieve the Targets

To meet the 2025 goals, Industriens Pension plans to:

  • Increase investments in renewable energy and other sustainable technologies.
  • Engage with companies to encourage greener practices.
  • Implement stricter ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) criteria in investment decisions

The fund will also ensure regular monitoring and reporting to maintain transparency and accountability.

Industriens Pension’s announcement is part of a growing trend among Danish pension funds to take a proactive stance on climate issues. By setting specific, near-term targets, the fund seeks to lead by example and demonstrate that financial returns and climate responsibility can go hand in hand.
