Engaging to Accelerate the Phasing Out of Coal

Tokyo (NordSIP) –  Over breakfast, Caroline Le Meaux, Amundi’s Head of ESG Research, Engagement & Voting, reflects on the importance of holding the PRI in Person conference in Japan. “Accelerating action on both climate and biodiversity in Asia is crucial,” she says. “Also, for being such an advanced economy, Japan is actually lagging its OECD peers, especially on coal. It is difficult for us as investors to keep our pledges to phase out coal by 2030 when Japan doesn’t have the same timeline. As an example, together with other asset managers and the non-profit Australasian Centre for Corporate Responsibility (ACCR), we have, for the second year in a row, filed a joint shareholder resolution at J-Power on this issue.”

“The PRI event is about adjusting our expectations for the year ahead, but also about getting motivated and preparing ourselves for the sustainability battles ahead,” adds Le Meaux.
