Impact Investors Can Have Their Cake and Eat It

“There’s a growing recognition among the wider investor community of the value and impact that can be found in Africa, which has echoed throughout the GIIN 2023 Impact Forum. The potential in Africa is such that one can say you can really ‘have your cake and eat it’. There’s been tremendous development in the continent but there is still so much that can be done to improve the provision of basic goods and services beyond what is available and the scale is very significant. Even if the margins are low, large and underserved populations allow solutions to yield significant returns. The challenge remains with project execution and some of the local administrative hurdles that need to be overcome. But the opportunities exist and there is no need to give up financial returns to make a positive impact across whole countries,” Andrew Carruthers, Managing Partner at Novastar Ventures, tells NordSIP.
