Shifting Capital to the New Impact Frontiers

Share post:

Triodos Investment Management was one of the founding members of the Global Impact Investing Network, 15 years ago. It is really rewarding to see the success of the GIIN in growing from a niche of a few very committed investors to the impressive number of participants we are seeing this year. This is exactly what we meant when we wanted to mainstream impact investing and normalise the application of the impact lens to investing. We cannot solve the world’s challenges if impact investing remains niche. But we need to be mindful of our duty to ensure that we are still allocating capital for impact.

Impact investing has also grown and is no longer the exclusive remit of private markets. Dedicated investors can deploy impact capital at scale in public markets as well. Thematically, social issues, biodiversity and emerging markets are the new frontiers that our community needs to focus on. These are not easy, but impact investing is not about doing the easy thing.
