Folksam Adds SEK 3bn in Green EM Infrastructure

Stockholm (NordSIP) – On December 11, 2024, Folksamgruppen (Folksam) announced an investment of SEK 3 billion in the Copenhagen Infrastructure Growth Markets Fund II. This fund is dedicated to supporting renewable energy projects in emerging markets, including countries such as Chile and Vietnam. Its portfolio focuses on the development of onshore and offshore wind farms, solar parks, and energy storage solutions. These projects collectively aim to contribute approximately 10 gigawatts (GW) of green energy to power grids and are projected to reduce over 10 million tons of CO₂ emissions annually.

Rebecka Elkert, Head of Alternative Investments at Folksam, highlighted the strategic importance of targeting emerging markets for such investments. “By investing in economies with strong growth, we contribute to cheaper energy sources and greater energy independence. At the same time, each invested krona leads to nearly three times the reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to similar investments in more developed markets,” she stated in the press release (in Swedish).

The SEK 3 billion investment is allocated across Folksam’s different entities, with SEK 2.1 billion from KPA Tjänstepensionsförsäkring, SEK 800 million from Folksam Tjänstepension, and SEK 100 million SEK from Konsumentkooperationens pensionsstiftelse.

This investment also represents a continuation of Folksam’s collaboration with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners. The partnership previously included an investment in Copenhagen Infrastructure V during the fall of 2023, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to supporting sustainable energy projects globally.
