Commitment to Sustainability

Engagement Resources
We have a dedicated Asset Stewardship team with 9 full-time employees. The Asset Stewardship team is in charge of all voting and engagement activities across investment strategies and regions. Their duties include developing and managing State Street Global Advisors’ proxy voting and engagement guidelines, engaging with companies, analyzing corporate governance issues on a case-by-case basis at the company level, and exercising our voting rights, all to maximize shareholder value. Our Stewardship teams are led by regional heads in North America, EMEA, and APAC, who are experts in the governance landscapes of their respective geographies. In both North America and EMEA, our stewardship heads are supported by analyst teams.
ESG team
We have a dedicated ESG Investment team with 9 full-time employees. The ESG investing team’s role within the organization is to help educate the various investment teams regarding ESG related risks and opportunities and to help them integrate ESG into their investment processes. The team works closely with investment teams and other groups to develop and design products and solutions to meet client needs.
Offerings across SRI Spectrum
We provide investors choices to invest based on their own values and preferences and have the capabilities to implement a variety of ESG investment styles, including:

  • Exclusionary Screening – Excludes companies, sectors or countries involved in activities that do not align with global standards or investors’ values.
  • Best-in-class Investment Selection – Invests in sectors and companies, or projects with superior ESG performance relative to universe or industry peers.
  • Thematic Investing – Screens, selects and optimizes for companies solving specific ESG themes (e.g., climate change, gender, etc.).
  • ESG Integration – Incorporates ESG data, alongside traditional financial analysis, into the securities selection process.
  • Asset Stewardship – Actively promotes ESG issues in all investment strategies.

Given the variety of ESG investment styles available, investors have the opportunity to reflect on their own values and investment objectives in selecting the most appropriate strategy for them. Some examples of strategies that we implement for clients include faith-based screens such as those that align with Catholic values, diversity objectives and climate strategies.

Proxy Voting
Every year, we vote at over 17,000 meetings. We prioritize company meetings for further review based on factors such as the size of our holdings, past engagement, corporate performance and voting items identified as areas of potential concern. All voting decisions are exercised in accordance with our inhouse guidelines or specific client instructions. Like engagement, we see proxy voting as a tool available to us for communicating our views to companies. In general, we rely more on proxy voting in contexts where our relative holding values are smaller compared to other investors, engagement culture is less developed, and/or companies have not been responsive to engagement efforts.
