Stockholm (NordSIP) – After four and a half years specialising in responsible investments at insurer Länsförsäkringar, Alexander Elving has moved to a new position within the Council on Ethics of the Swedish AP Funds (Etikrådet). Prior to Länsförsäkringar, Elving began his career as a mining sector research analyst before specialising in sustainability work with Stockholm-based advisory firm ISS-Ethix.
Speaking to NordSIP about his new role at the Council on Ethics, Elving said: “The opportunity to contribute to how the investment community, by way of active ownership, approaches complex sustainability challenges in this critical decade of action, and the Council’s expanded mandate and new focus areas under the leadership of Director Jenny Gustafsson and the Council’s board, convinced me that this was the right move to make at this time.
Elving is looking forward to helping lever the sheer scale of the four main Swedish State buffer funds in exerting positive influence on investee companies: “The combined strength of the AP funds, which together represent close to SEK 2 trillion worth of assets, which is a sizable portion of the Swedish national pension system, together with the Council’s strong track record of driving change through engagement with industries and individual companies globally, presents a unique opportunity to be a part of tackling the systemic risks facing the world today such as climate change and anti-microbial resistance.”
The stregthening of the team of sustainability experts within the Council on Ethics was hinted at during NordSIP’s interview with Director Jenny Gustafsson in October 2023. Elving is keen to get started, adding: “Several new projects connected to the Council’s focus areas are in store for 2024, and I look forward to contributing to realising them together with key stakeholders in the investment community.”
